Vanessa Trump has spoken out for the first time since her boyfriend, Tiger Woods, pleaded not guilty to driving under the influence. The 50-year-old golfer was arrested last week after a rollover car accident in Jupiter Island, Florida.
Sharing a throwback picture of the couple cuddling on a reclined chair on Friday morning, Vanessa wrote: 'Love you' alongside two red-heart emojis. Woods has been dating Donald Trump Jr.'s ex-wife for more than a year.
Woods crawled out of his Land Rover SUV after the vehicle flipped on its side. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured. Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek stated that Woods showed 'signs of impairment' and had 'bloodshot and glassy' eyes, despite a negative breathalyzer test. Body camera footage revealed Woods had pills in his pocket, later confirmed to be hydrocodone, an opioid used for severe chronic pain.
Woods told officers he had undergone seven back surgeries and over 20 surgeries on his right leg. He pleaded not guilty to DUI and was released on bail. In body camera footage, Woods claimed he was looking at his phone and changing the radio station when the crash occurred. He also told an officer he had been speaking with 'the president'. President Trump later confirmed he had spoken with Woods since the crash.
In his first public comments, Woods announced he is 'stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health', meaning he will miss the Masters this month. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 5, though he does not need to appear in person.
