The Israeli military said it had launched a new wave of strikes on Tehran, shortly after Donald Trump signalled a pause in US attacks against Iranian energy infrastructure, following what he described as productive talks with Tehran.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated it would continue operations in line with Israeli government directives until told otherwise, but an official suggested that energy infrastructure would be spared, mirroring Washington's suspension of such targeting.
Al Jazeera Arabic's correspondent in Tehran reported that the size and volume of the explosions in the capital were 'unprecedented'. Iran's Revolutionary Guards said they had launched a new attack on targets in Israel in response.
Trump wrote on social media that Washington and Tehran had 'very good and productive conversations' over the past two days, and that he had instructed the Department of War to postpone military strikes against Iranian power plants for five days, subject to the success of ongoing discussions.
The IDF said it had struck a series of military bases and weapons sites, including Revolutionary Guard headquarters, a Quds Force base, and a defence ministry missile production facility. The US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency reported at least 206 attacks across 15 Iranian provinces, resulting in four casualties, including a child. Total fatalities since the start of the conflict are estimated to exceed 1,500.
Separately, Israel continued its campaign in Lebanon, striking Hezbollah infrastructure in Beirut's southern suburbs and capturing two members of the group. Lebanon's health ministry reported one person killed.
