Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in his nightly video address, emphasised the importance of these talks leading to genuine peace rather than providing Russia with an opportunity to prolong hostilities. He called for increased pressure from Ukraine's international partners on Moscow to facilitate a resolution. Additionally, Zelenskyy expressed optimism that the negotiations would soon result in a new prisoner exchange, offering a glimmer of hope for families affected by the war.
In a separate interview with French television channel France 2, President Zelenskyy disclosed updated casualty figures, estimating that approximately 55,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed since the conflict began. Russian forces used cluster munitions in an attack on a busy market in the eastern Ukrainian town of Druzhkivka, killing seven people and wounding 15 others, according to local officials. Vadym Filashkin, head of the Donetsk regional military administration, condemned the assault, describing Russian ceasefire talk as "worthless" in light of such actions.
Overnight, Russia launched 105 drones against Ukraine, with Ukrainian air defences successfully intercepting 88 of them.
