Turkey has launched a series of airstrikes in northern Syria in response to a deadly bombing in its capital, Ankara, marking a significant escalation in regional tensions.
The attack, which targeted Kurdish militant positions, comes just hours after an explosion near government buildings in Ankara injured two police officers. Turkish authorities have blamed the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) for the bombing, though the group has not claimed responsibility.
Military Response
Turkish Defence Minister Hulusi Akar confirmed the strikes, stating that military operations had 'neutralised' multiple PKK targets in Syria. The airstrikes reportedly hit bases and ammunition depots used by Kurdish militants.
'Our operations will continue with determination until the threat is eliminated,' Akar said in a televised statement.
Regional Tensions
The strikes have further strained relations between Turkey and Syria, with Damascus condemning the incursion as a violation of its sovereignty. The Syrian government has called for international intervention to halt Turkish military actions.
Meanwhile, the US-led coalition against ISIS has urged restraint, warning that escalating conflict could destabilise the region further.

Following the bombing, security has been tightened across Ankara, with increased police presence and checkpoints. Authorities have warned of potential further attacks, urging citizens to remain vigilant.
