US President Donald Trump has asserted that Britain's King Charles shares his view on preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, a statement made during a state dinner at the White House.
Trump's Remarks on Iran
Speaking on Tuesday, April 29, Trump told 120 guests at the white-tie banquet: "We have militarily defeated that particular opponent and we're never going to let that opponent, and Charles agrees with me even more than I do, we're never going to let that opponent have a nuclear weapon, they know that and they know that." He added, "And we are going to stand defiant and triumphant against the forces of communism, fascism, and tyranny."
The US has been in conflict with Iran since February 28, when joint US-Israel strikes targeted several key Iranian sites. Iran retaliated by striking sites across the region. Although a short-term ceasefire is in place, no long-term peace agreement has been reached.
King Charles's Speech
In his own address at the banquet, King Charles reflected on historical challenges in US-UK relations, referencing his mother's 1957 visit during a Middle East crisis. He said: "Yes, we have had our moments of difficulty even in more recent history. When my mother visited in 1957, not the least of her tasks was to help put the 'special' back into our relationship after a crisis in the Middle East. Nearly 70 years on, it is hard to imagine anything like that happening today."

The dinner was attended by prominent figures including golfing ace Rory McIlroy, Amazon boss Jeff Bezos, and Apple chief Tim Cook. Also present were US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, his UK counterpart Yvette Cooper, US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, and General Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
