Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, telling him to “watch his words” after the Russian official ridiculed the US president on social media. In a late-night post on Truth Social, Trump described Medvedev as a “failed former President of Russia” and cautioned that he was “entering very dangerous territory.”
The exchange follows Trump’s ultimatum during a visit to Turnberry, Scotland, where he demanded that Russia agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine within “10 or 12 days.” Medvedev responded on X, accusing Trump of playing an “ultimatum game” and warning that each new threat could lead to war between Russia and the US, not just Ukraine. He also urged Trump not to “go down the Sleepy Joe road,” a reference to former President Joe Biden.
Medvedev, now deputy chair of Russia’s security council, later attacked US Senator Lindsey Graham for calling on him to “get to the peace table,” retorting that negotiations will only end when Russia’s military objectives are achieved. Medvedev’s combative tone drew Trump’s ire, prompting the president’s late-night rebuke.
In the same social media outburst, Trump also criticised India over its continued purchases of Russian arms and oil, saying he does not care if India and Russia “take their dead economies down together.” He repeated complaints about India’s high tariffs, despite previously calling the country a “friend.” The comments come ahead of Trump’s “Liberation Day” tariff package, due to take effect on Friday.
