US President Donald Trump arrived in Beijing around 8 a.m. ET on Wednesday morning, accompanied by an entourage that included Nvidia's Jensen Huang and Elon Musk, after pledging to urge China's Xi Jinping to "open up" to US business.
Landmark Talks Scheduled
During his two-day visit, Trump is expected to hold landmark talks with President Xi Jinping this week, including on how to bring an end to the war in Iran and reopen the strait. The U.S. president will be greeted by Xi at 10 a.m. Beijing time (3 a.m. BST), before a state banquet is held at 6 p.m.
Sensitive Subjects on the Agenda
Apart from trade, the talks will cover a host of sensitive subjects from the Iran war to U.S. arms sales to Taiwan, the democratically governed island claimed by China. Trump is widely expected to encourage China to convince Tehran to make a deal with Washington to end the conflict, though he has said he did not think he would need its help.
