Former President Donald Trump has launched another fierce attack on television host Seth Meyers, demanding NBC immediately fire the Late Night comedian.
The outburst occurred on Trump's Truth Social platform on Saturday night, where he claimed Meyers was seen in an 'uncontrollable rage' and suffers from an 'incurable case of Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS)'.
The Truth Social Tirade
In his social media post, Trump didn't hold back, describing Meyers's programme as a 'ratings DISASTER' and asserting the host has 'no talent'.
What makes this development particularly significant is that Federal Communications Commissioner Brendan Carr shared Trump's post. Commissioner Carr had previously been involved in the investigation concerning ABC and Jimmy Kimmel, which led to Kimmel's show being temporarily pulled from dozens of affiliates after controversial remarks.
Behind the Renewed Outrage
Trump's latest demand for Meyers's dismissal follows a week of pointed jokes from the late-night host. During his Thursday broadcast, Meyers labelled Trump the 'most unpopular president of all time', highlighting reports of slipping approval ratings amongst Republicans.
The comedian also targeted several of Trump's recent statements. He mocked the former president for claiming 'no one knows how magnets work' and jested about lead paint being found in Trump's childhood home.
Perhaps the most biting criticism came from Trump's Tuesday night interview with Fox News's Laura Ingraham. The discussion centred on H-1B visas, which permit US companies to hire highly-skilled foreign workers. Trump defended their necessity, stating the US lacks enough talented people in its own workforce, a comment that angered parts of his MAGA base.
Meyers seized on this, impersonating Trump by saying, 'Laura, Laura, listen you can't expect me to Make America Great Again with only Americans. You sound insane, Laura.'
He further criticised Trump's remark that you cannot simply take people from unemployment lines and put them in factories to make missiles, arguing that Trump himself would have been on such lines without his family's wealth.
A History of Hostilities and Wider Implications
This is not the first clash between the two. Just two weeks prior, Trump labelled Meyers a 'deranged lunatic' after the host mocked his comments on steam catapults versus modern electromagnetic systems on aircraft carriers.
In September, Trump declared that Meyers would be the 'next' late-night host to face cancellation, following the brief suspension of Jimmy Kimmel's show. Reports at the time suggested Meyers was concerned by these threats, with a television expert predicting he could be vulnerable as networks shift away from politically charged content.
However, Meyers has remained defiant. Following the Kimmel incident, he accused the Trump camp of 'pursuing a crackdown on free speech' and vowed to continue his show with 'enthusiasm and integrity'.
The conflict now sits within a broader political context, including the recent release of emails connected to Jeffrey Epstein. The released correspondence suggested Trump knew about Epstein's actions, a claim the former president has vehemently denied, calling it a 'political witch hunt' and attempting to shift focus onto Democratic figures like Bill and Hillary Clinton.
