Donald Trump has accused Xi Jinping, Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un of 'conspiring' against the United States after the Chinese premier hosted his Russian and North Korean counterparts for a lavish military parade in Beijing. The Victory Day parade marked the 80th anniversary of Imperial Japan's defeat in 1945, with the three leaders attending together.
In a post on Truth Social on Tuesday evening, Trump wrote: 'The big question to be answered is whether or not President Xi of China will mention the massive amount of support and blood that The United States of America gave to China... I hope that they are rightfully Honored and Remembered for their Bravery and Sacrifice! May President Xi and the wonderful people of China have a great and lasting day of celebration. Please give my warmest regards to Vladimir Putin, and Kim Jong-un, as you conspire against The United States of America.'
The American leader's sarcastic response comes as the eastern superpowers forge closer alliances in response to his 'reciprocal tariffs' strategy. Trump launched a trade war against China during his first term but had largely maintained a respectful tone towards Xi. His relationship with Kim evolved from insults to summits, while ties with Putin remain complex, with recent talks in Alaska failing to yield a breakthrough on Ukraine.
During the parade, Xi presented new weapons and warned that 'humanity again has to choose between peace and war.' At a reception, he cautioned against returning to 'the law of the jungle.' Putin and Kim joined Xi for a historic group photograph with other leaders of the so-called 'Axis of Upheaval.'
Trump's outburst may indicate concern over the growing alignment of these powers against US interests. His past dealings with each leader have been inconsistent, ranging from confrontation to diplomacy, but the parade served as a stark visual display of their unity.
