Three Dead and Unesco Monastery Hit in Lviv as Russia Launches Rare Daylight Drone Attack on Ukraine
In a significant escalation of hostilities, Russia has conducted a rare daytime drone assault on Ukraine, resulting in at least three fatalities and 30 injuries. The attack, which involved over 400 drones, set a building in Lviv ablaze and marked a departure from Russia's typical night-time tactics. This assault follows an overnight strike that killed five people and injured 27, compounding the humanitarian crisis in the region.
President Zelensky Urges Allies for Air Defence Support
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has reported that the bombardment affected 11 regions across Ukraine. He has urgently called on allied nations to supply more air defence munitions, citing a geopolitical shift influenced by the ongoing war in Iran. Zelensky emphasised the critical need for enhanced defensive capabilities to protect civilian areas from such aggressive aerial attacks.
Intensified Ground Assaults and Preparations for Offensive
Moscow has ramped up ground assaults along the extensive 750-mile front line, with Ukraine bracing for further attacks as weather conditions improve. Military intelligence indicates that Russia is preparing for a spring-summer offensive, moving heavy equipment and mobilised personnel to the front lines starting from 1 April. This strategic buildup suggests a prolonged and intensified conflict in the coming months.
The attack also damaged a Unesco-listed monastery in Lviv, highlighting the cultural devastation accompanying the military aggression. Ukrainian firefighters are currently tackling blazes in Zaporizhzhia following a separate deadly Russian strike, underscoring the widespread impact of the conflict on infrastructure and heritage sites.
