Keir Starmer has been offered a seat on the Gaza peace board established by Donald Trump as part of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, with the Prime Minister expected to accept, sources have confirmed.
The offer was made by a senior Trump administration official. Conversations about the board’s exact composition continue, and no formal invitation has been received. The board is intended to oversee Gaza’s administration and reconstruction.
Tony Blair was originally considered but dropped after objections from Middle Eastern nations due to his role in the Iraq war. He may join a separate executive board alongside Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff.
Trump said the board would consist of “the most important leaders of the most important nations.” Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper declined to confirm Starmer’s involvement but stressed the need for international cooperation on the fragile ceasefire.
Starmer has defended his international engagements, telling Labour MPs that being “in the room” for trade and defence talks helps the domestic economy.
