Harry Redknapp has opened up about the terrifying health ordeal his wife Sandra endured after developing a kidney infection that led to sepsis. The 79-year-old former football manager revealed that Sandra was rushed to hospital in 2018 while he was working away in London.
Speaking at a charity event in Shoreditch, Redknapp explained that the family initially did not know what was wrong with Sandra. 'We didn't really know what she had, it's only when we rushed her to the hospital and she was getting very ill,' he said. He credited his family's quick actions with saving her life, noting that if she had not gone to hospital that night, 'it could've been too late.'
The UK Sepsis Trust reports that sepsis affects around 245,000 people annually in the UK and causes approximately 48,000 deaths. The condition can progress rapidly, leading to shock, multiple organ failure and death if not treated promptly. Redknapp admitted he was unaware of sepsis before Sandra's illness and has since become involved with a sepsis charity to raise awareness.
Fortunately, Sandra, who has been married to Harry for 59 years, has made a full recovery. Redknapp described her as 'all good' and 'keeping busy.' He also shared an update on his own health, revealing a recent diagnosis of hearing loss, which he admitted he sometimes neglects to manage by wearing his hearing aids.
