Royal Mail has unveiled a dazzling new set of stamps dedicated to the legendary comedy troupe Monty Python, celebrating their enduring impact on British humour and culture. The collection features vibrant artwork inspired by some of the group's most iconic sketches and films, including Life of Brian, The Holy Grail, and the beloved Dead Parrot sketch.
The stamps, designed in collaboration with original Python member Terry Gilliam, showcase the surreal and anarchic style that made the group a global phenomenon. Each stamp captures a different facet of their groundbreaking work, from the absurdity of the Ministry of Silly Walks to the wit of The Argument Clinic.
A Fitting Tribute to Comedy Royalty
David Gold, Royal Mail’s Director of Public Affairs, described the collection as a "fitting tribute to one of Britain’s greatest comedy exports." He added, "Monty Python redefined comedy, and their influence is still felt today. These stamps celebrate their genius and the joy they’ve brought to millions."
The stamps will be available for purchase from 23 July, with collectors and fans eagerly awaiting their release. A special presentation pack, featuring behind-the-scenes insights from the Pythons themselves, will also be available.
Why Monty Python Still Matters
Decades after their first TV appearance, Monty Python remains a cultural touchstone. Their blend of surreal humour, sharp satire, and fearless creativity continues to inspire comedians and entertainers worldwide. This stamp collection not only honours their legacy but also introduces their work to a new generation.
John Cleese, another founding Python, expressed his delight at the tribute, calling it "a wonderful surprise." He joked, "Finally, something from the Post Office that isn’t bills or bad news!"
Whether you’re a lifelong fan or new to their work, these stamps are a must-have for anyone who appreciates brilliant comedy.
