Donald Trump has threatened to send long-range Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine if Vladimir Putin does not end his invasion. The US president told reporters aboard Air Force One that he might say to Putin, 'look, if this war is not going to get settled, I’m going to send them Tomahawks.' Trump said Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy had requested Tomahawks during a call on Saturday when discussing fresh weapons supplies. 'Tomahawks are a new step of aggression,' he added.
Zelenskyy said 'we will see' when asked whether Trump had approved the Tomahawk supply. He told the Sunday Briefing that Ukraine was working on it and waiting for a 'yes'. A senior Ukrainian delegation is set to visit the US this week to discuss possible provision of long-range precision-strike weapons, including Tomahawks and more ATACMS missiles.
Moscow expressed 'extreme concern', with Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov calling the Tomahawk topic 'of extreme concern' and noting escalating tensions. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, a close Putin ally, doubted the US would follow through, suggesting Trump sometimes takes a forceful approach but then steps back.
Russia attacked Ukraine’s power grid, wounding two DTEK employees in a substation strike. Ukraine’s energy ministry reported infrastructure damage in Donetsk, Odesa and Chernihiv regions. Zelenskyy said Russia launched over 3,100 drones, 92 missiles and around 1,360 glide bombs in the past week, intensifying strikes on energy infrastructure.
Zelenskyy called for tighter secondary sanctions on buyers of Russian oil, adding that Ukraine had a 'very productive' phone call with Trump discussing air defence, resilience and long-range capabilities. He also reported Ukrainian counteroffensive gains in southern Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk regions, the latter being the conflict’s focal point.
