Rapper MC Hammer is facing legal action after allegedly failing to make payments on a £100,000 Land Rover, according to court documents. The 63-year-old, whose real name is Stanley Burrell, purchased the SUV from a dealership in Livermore, California, under a plan requiring 60 monthly payments of £2,434.
JPMorgan Chase Bank filed a complaint in San Joaquin County Superior Court last week, stating that the rapper missed several payments. The bank has demanded possession of the vehicle, but the defendant has not surrendered it, the complaint says. The contract lists the buyers as MC Hammer and U Can't Touch This LLC.
As of July 16, 2025, the rapper still owed £76,732.79 on the vehicle, according to reports. The Independent has contacted MC Hammer's representatives for comment.
This is not the first time the 'U Can't Touch This' singer has faced financial difficulties. At the height of his fame in the 1990s, he bought a luxurious Fremont Hills mansion and spent millions on improvements, including a recording studio and two swimming pools. However, in 1996, he filed for bankruptcy, claiming assets of only £1 million against debts of at least £10 million. He was forced to sell the mansion and move his family into a three-bedroom home in Tracy, California.
A recent Google Street View image of his property showed six cars in the driveway, including a green Land Rover Defender.
