Lainey Wilson, one of country music's biggest stars, is set to feature in a new Netflix documentary titled Keepin' Country Cool. The film offers an intimate look at her life on and off the stage, challenging the notion that her rise to fame was instantaneous.
The 33-year-old singer-songwriter invites cameras to join her on tour, showcasing a mix of home life, candid conversations about fame, family, and the hard work behind the spotlight. Wilson humorously refers to her career trajectory as a '14‑year overnight success'.
The documentary traces her journey from performing for her family at age five to moving to Nashville, where she lived in a trailer on the lot of her mentor Jerry Cupit's recording studio. It also highlights the efforts of her best friend-turned-manager, Mandelyn Monchick, who helped make Wilson's rear end an internet sensation.
Beyond music, Wilson opens up about personal dreams, including freezing her eggs to start a family with her fiancé, former American football star Devlin 'Duck' Hodges. She admits, 'I feel it in my heart that I was called to be a mama, but sometimes the Lord just has other plans.' The documentary also captures the sweet moment Hodges proposes after months of planning.
Despite winning three CMA Awards, a Grammy, and becoming the first solo female host of the CMA ceremony since Reba McEntire, Wilson remains grounded. She confesses, 'I don't have my s*** all together,' emphasising her raw personality and deep faith.
