Kylie Jenner's Uncomfortable Moment at the BAFTA Film Awards
Reality television star Kylie Jenner was left squirming and grimacing at the BAFTA Film Awards after host Alan Cumming directed an X-rated joke towards her during the ceremony. The incident occurred as Jenner attended the event with her boyfriend, actor Timothee Chalamet, who was nominated for the Best Actor award but ultimately lost out to Robert Aramayo.
Alan Cumming's Controversial Joke
During the awards show, held at the Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall in London, Cumming walked through the audience offering snacks to attendees. When he reached the seats occupied by Jenner and Chalamet, he asked the reality star: "Kylie, have you ever had your gums around a giant Jammie Dodger?"
Jenner responded by shaking her head and accepting the snack, but her facial expression clearly indicated discomfort and a lack of amusement at the double entendre. The joke received only scattered laughter from the audience, suggesting it fell flat with many present.
Audience and Viewer Reactions
Viewers watching the broadcast at home also expressed their disapproval of Cumming's hosting style and jokes. On social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, one viewer commented: "Alan Cummings' jokes falling flat." Another added: "Not funny. Not a good presenter. It's just painful to watch and hear."
Additional critical comments included: "There is absolutely nothing funny about Alan Cumming? This whole opening monologue is toe-curlingly awkward," and "Alan Cumming is making me cringe already." Some viewers suggested the poor reception might not be entirely Cumming's fault, with one noting: "I've got a funny feeling Alan Cumming might have been lumbered with the same scriptwriter David Tennant had when he hosted- oh dear."
Timothee Chalamet's Awards Night
The evening proved disappointing for Jenner's partner as well, with Chalamet losing the Best Actor award despite his nomination for his role as the titular character in Marty Supreme. The award instead went to Robert Aramayo for his performance as John Davidson in I Swear.
Aramayo had a particularly successful night, also winning the Rising Star award for the same role. This made him the only actor of the evening to receive more than one award, with the Rising Star category being the only one decided by public vote.
Other Award Winners and Jenner's Attendance
Other acting awards presented during the ceremony included Best Actress for Jessie Buckley, Best Supporting Actress for Wunmi Mosaku, and Best Supporting Actor for Sean Penn, who was not present to accept his award.
Jenner, who has been in a relationship with Chalamet since 2023, attended the awards but notably avoided the red carpet, entering separately through alternative entrances. The 28-year-old Kardashians star has made several appearances with her 30-year-old boyfriend during this award season, including at the Golden Globe Awards and Critics' Choice Awards.
Sources suggest Jenner often skips red carpet events to prevent overshadowing her partner's professional moments and to maintain privacy in their relationship, typically supporting him from the audience or using quieter entrances. Last year, an insider told Grazia Daily that the couple might also be trying to keep their work and personal lives separate by avoiding joint red carpet appearances.
