Former Emmerdale star Kelvin Fletcher has spoken of his heartbreak after a fire destroyed his family's dream home. The actor and his wife, Liz, have begun clearing out their property, which was left uninhabitable following a blaze that broke out while they were on holiday.
In the latest episode of Fletcher's Family Farm, which airs on Sunday, the couple returned to their home to salvage belongings and prepare for rebuilding. Kelvin admitted he felt 'so detached' from the house, saying he had 'lost his connection' to it since the fire. 'It was our dream home in many ways, and to have that disconnect... it's just finally good to turn a new page and finally start the rebuild,' he said.
Liz echoed her husband's sentiments, describing the experience as 'sad' but acknowledging their fortune that no one was home at the time. 'People say, 'Oh, you've had some bad luck this year.' And, yeah, but actually, we do always say we've been so lucky that we weren't here,' she remarked.
The couple have been waiting 18 months to begin the clearance process due to insurance rules. Kelvin described the moment as 'the beginning of the next chapter,' while Liz noted that the arrival of a skip signalled a fresh start. 'It has felt like forever... and now we stood here thinking, 'You've got to start somewhere',' she said.
The fire caused extensive smoke damage, rendering the house unlivable. The Fletchers are now focused on rebuilding their home and moving forward after a challenging period.
