The annual fundraiser, organized by Wine, Women & Shoes, successfully raised an impressive $5.5 million for Big Dog Ranch Rescue, recognized as America's largest no-kill animal shelter. Heigl, now 47, joined other celebrities and fashion designers at the event, demonstrating her commitment to animal welfare causes.
Speaking exclusively to USA Today's Palm Beach Post during the gathering, Heigl explained her participation stemmed from her alignment with Big Dog's mission. "Our biggest goal right now really is to diminish the number of unwanted litters coming into this country, which is what is overcrowding our shelters," the 27 Dresses star stated. She emphasized that the shelter crisis is not the fault of shelter workers, but rather a systemic issue driven by puppy-mill breeders overrunning the country.
