Comedian Josh Widdicombe has been announced as the first celebrity contestant for the 2024 Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special. The news was revealed on BBC Two's Strictly: It Takes Two, where it was confirmed he will be partnered with professional dancer Karen Hauer.
Widdicombe, known for his role as a team captain on Channel 4's The Last Leg and co-host of the Parenting Hell podcast with Rob Beckett, expressed his nerves about taking part. 'I am utterly terrified this will end in humiliation and worried I’m going to be so bad I will ruin Christmas for the nation. Why have I done this?' he said.
The Christmas special will feature six celebrities performing festive routines in a bid to win the Christmas trophy. The judging panel will include Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke, and head judge Shirley Ballas, with the winner decided by the studio audience.
The remaining contestants will be announced on Strictly: It Takes Two in due course. The special airs on BBC One and iPlayer on Christmas Day.
