John Nolan, known for roles in Batman Begins and Dunkirk, has died. His widow, Kim Hartman, described him as 'a free spirit, who always knew what he wanted and acted on his own terms'. Hartman added: 'He was also the kindest person I ever knew – and animals loved him too!'
Born on 22nd May 1938, Nolan died on 11th April. He was best remembered for playing the main villain John Greer in the CBS sci-fi drama Person of Interest, created by his nephews, Jonathan and Christopher Nolan. His character appeared from the second series until the show's conclusion in 2016.
Nolan collaborated regularly with his nephews, appearing as Douglas Fredericks in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight Rises. He also played a blind man in Dunkirk and featured in the HBO series Dune: Prophecy as the Speaker of the Hall, his last on-screen credit two years ago.
Outside acting, Nolan worked as a director and lecturer at Stratford College. He leaves behind his wife, children Miranda and Tom, and grandchildren. Tributes flooded social media, with one fan writing: 'He was a terrific villain in Person of Interest.'
