Former Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Jen Shah has spoken about her time in prison with Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes, revealing they bonded over a shared task known as 'poop duty'. Shah, 52, was released in December after serving less than three years of her six-and-a-half-year sentence for her role in a telemarketing fraud scheme targeting the elderly.
In an interview with People, Shah said she and Holmes were housed in the same unit at the Federal Prison Camp in Bryan, Texas, for the final 10 months of her stay. The prison also held Ghislaine Maxwell. Shah explained that inmates were assigned 'poop duty' if their bathroom received three strikes for uncleanliness. 'We both got assigned to poop duty together, so I feel like when you do poop duty with someone like you're going to be close,' Shah said.
Shah described the task as sitting in the bathroom for an hour, watching others use the facilities and inspecting the toilet after each use. She noted that Holmes, whom she called 'Lizzy', was a 'sounding board' who understood her situation. The two would walk outside and discuss missing their families and prison legislation.
Holmes, 42, was convicted in January 2022 on four counts of fraud and conspiracy for misleading investors about her blood-testing technology. She is serving an 11-year-and-three-month sentence, with a projected release date of 2032. Shah pleaded guilty in July 2022 to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and was released after less than three years.
