Jason Momoa Provides Safety Update After Fleeing Hawaiian Home During Historic Floods
Hollywood star Jason Momoa has confirmed his safety after being forced to evacuate his residence on Oahu, Hawaii, as the island state grapples with its most severe flooding in two decades. The actor, renowned for his role in 'Aquaman', shared a heartfelt message via social media, expressing concern for fellow residents impacted by the catastrophic weather event.
Evacuation and Immediate Aftermath
Momoa revealed in an Instagram Story on Saturday that he and his family safely departed from the North Shore area after losing power. "I got my family with me. We got out of the North Shore... our power went off... We're safe for now, but there's a lot of people who weren't, so we're sending all our love," he stated, according to reports from People magazine. He described the situation as "pretty gnarly" and urged others to stay safe.
The flooding, triggered by heavy rainfall on already saturated soil from a prior winter storm, submerged Oahu's iconic North Shore—a region famous for its big-wave surfing. The deluge dislodged homes and vehicles, leading to evacuation orders for approximately 5,500 residents north of Honolulu. Although these orders were later lifted, more than 2,000 people remained without power by Sunday afternoon, and over 200 individuals required rescue from rising waters.
Community Support and Relief Efforts
Demonstrating solidarity with his community, Momoa posted a video on Saturday showing him and his girlfriend, Adria Arjona, distributing meals from the Hawaiian diner chain Zippy's to those who had lost their homes or been evacuated. In a caption accompanying the video, Momoa wrote, "These past weeks have been heavy. The storms, the flooding, the constant rain across Oʻahu have affected so many of our people, especially those already facing hardship."
He continued, "Seeing families displaced, communities struggling, and our unhoused neighbors hit the hardest. We spent time on the west side, just trying to show love, bring some food, and remind our community that we see you, we stand with you, and you're not alone." Momoa emphasized that such actions embody the spirit of "aloha," highlighting the importance of mutual support during crises.
Broader Impact and Government Response
Governor Josh Green addressed the severity of the situation, estimating that the storm's damage could exceed $1 billion, affecting airports, schools, roads, homes, and a hospital in Kula, Maui. "This is going to have a very serious consequence for us as a state," Green remarked during a news conference. He confirmed that his chief of staff had communicated with the White House, securing assurances of federal support for the islands.
In addition to the personal and community impacts, Momoa's band, ÖOF TATATÁ, postponed a scheduled performance on Oʻahu over the weekend due to the adverse conditions. The actor, aged 46, and Arjona, 33, who went public with their relationship in May 2024, have been actively involved in relief efforts. Momoa was previously married to Lisa Bonet, 58, with whom he shares two children: Lola Iolani, 16, and Nakoa-Wolf, 15.
