Jane Fonda has admitted her biggest regret about working with Robert Redford was that their on-screen love scenes were not long enough. The 88-year-old actress starred alongside Redford in four films, including the 2017 Netflix hit 'Our Souls at Night'. Speaking on the Ellen DeGeneres show, Fonda cheekily said: 'I'm happy with the love scene. I'm unhappy because it was so short!' She added of her years co-starring with the actor: 'I've been in bed with him a lot.'
Fonda's comments come after she expressed annoyance that Barbra Streisand delivered the Oscars tribute to Redford, who died last year at the age of 89. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the Vanity Fair Oscar party, Fonda said: 'I wanna know how come Streisand was up there doing that for Redford. She only made one movie with him. I made four. I have more to say.' Streisand starred with Redford in 1973's 'The Way We Were'.
Despite her frustration, Fonda spoke warmly of Redford, whom she described as 'the most gorgeous human being' with 'such great values'. She also credited him with changing and lifting up independent cinema. The pair first worked together in 1966's 'The Chase' and later in 'Barefoot in the Park' (1967), 'The Electric Horseman' (1979) and 'Our Souls at Night' (2017).
Redford died peacefully in his sleep at his home in the US. During the Oscars, Streisand delivered an emotional tribute, praising the late actor's talent and 'real backbone on and off the screen'. Fonda, however, felt she had a stronger claim to deliver the speech due to their longer collaboration.
