Jamie Dunn, a veteran radio personality who brought the sharp-witted puppet Agro to life, has died aged 76. The Brisbane presenter, known for his brash and unapologetic humour, passed away on Saturday.
Dunn introduced his furry puppet Agro Vation, famously made from a bath mat, on the Seven Network's children's program Wombat in the 1980s. He later fronted Agro's Cartoon Connection from 1990 to 1997. On radio, he co-hosted B105's top-rating breakfast show for 16 years until 2005.
Tributes have poured in from colleagues and fans. Jill Ray-Black, his Cartoon Connection co-host, said Dunn was unforgettable. Ranger Stacey described him as brilliant, hilarious, and a kind loyal friend. Robin Bailey, who worked with him on B105, called him a trailblazer who taught her the craft of storytelling.
Gary Hardgrave, a fellow radio presenter, said Dunn was a true entertainer who loved to joke and had a lot of fun in his life. Brisbane mayor Adrian Schrinner paid tribute to the 'proud Brisbane talent's' quick wit, which brought joy to millions of children in the 1980s and 1990s.
In December, Dunn had revealed he was in talks with Channel 7 to revive Agro Up Late for a one-hour special in 2026.
