Jackie 'O' Henderson has broken her silence to insist she did not resign from the Kyle and Jackie O Show, contradicting her employer's account. In a statement issued on Friday, the breakfast radio host said she was 'deeply saddened' by the possibility of the show ending and that media reports contained 'speculation and misinformation'.
The Australian Radio Network (ARN) had earlier told the ASX that Henderson had given notice she could not work with Kyle Sandilands and that her contract had been terminated. ARN also said Sandilands had been accused of 'serious misconduct' and suspended for 14 days, with the show taken off air.
Henderson's statement comes two weeks after she left the studio in tears following an on-air argument. Sandilands had mocked her interest in astrology and accused her of being 'unfocused' and 'not doing her job'. Henderson said she would never attack him in the same way and described the incident as a 'total attack'.
She has indicated she will take legal action but declined to provide details, citing ongoing legal proceedings. 'The current media narrative does not reflect what actually occurred,' she said, thanking fans for their support during a 'challenging time'.
Both hosts signed record $100 million contracts in 2023 for a decade of shows. Sandilands remains under contract but must show how he will remedy the alleged breach or face termination. The broadcaster is also facing regulatory action over previous 'vulgar' content.
