Jackie O denies quitting radio show amid contract dispute

Jackie ‘O’ Henderson has broken her silence to say she did “not quit or resign” from the Kyle and Jackie O Show, and she is “deeply saddened” the hit breakfast radio show may come to an end.

“I am deeply saddened by the events of the past week and the possibility of the show ending,” she said. “This has come as a shock to me, as it has to everyone else.”

Her statement appears to contradict the explanation given earlier this week by the broadcaster’s parent company, the Australian Radio Network, which said Henderson had “given notice that she ‘cannot continue to work with Mr Kyle Sandilands’” and her contract had been terminated.

ARN told the ASX on Tuesday the Kyle and Jackie O Show had been taken off the air and Kyle Sandilands had been accused of “serious misconduct”. “ARN has terminated the services agreement with Henderson Media Pty Ltd, under which Ms Henderson presents the Kyle and Jackie O show,” ARN said.

Henderson indicated on Friday she would take legal action but did not detail her claim or who it was against. She alleged there was widespread misinformation in the media about her departure from the show. “Over the past few days, there has been a lot of speculation and misinformation about my departure from the show,” Henderson said via her manager, Gemma O’Neill. “I want to make one important point very clear: I did not quit or resign.”

Each presenter signed a record $100m contract in 2023 for a decade of breakfast shows. Sandilands is technically still under contract with ARN but has been suspended for 14 days because of his “serious misconduct”. He has not made any public statements.
