Hilary Whitehall's Awkward James Corden Encounter Revealed on Podcast
Hilary Whitehall, the mother of comedian Jack Whitehall, has shared a humorous and awkward story about an encounter with her son's close friend, television host James Corden. The revelation came during an episode of the popular family podcast The Wittering Whitehalls, which she hosts with her husband Michael.
The Unfortunate House Conversation
Hilary, aged 64, recounted an incident from 2011 that occurred shortly after she and Michael purchased a property from Lulu's son, Jordan Frieda. The very next day, the couple attended a performance of James Corden's play One Man, Two Guvnors. In the dressing room after the show, they found themselves in the company of only one other guest: the singer Lulu herself.
Seizing the opportunity, Hilary introduced herself to Lulu, explaining the peculiar coincidence of having just bought her son's house. What followed was a twenty-minute conversation entirely focused on the property, its features, and Lulu's affection for it. Hilary described Lulu's reaction as enthusiastic, with the singer expressing delight that the house had gone to people who would care for it.
James Corden's Frustrated Interjection
As the house discussion dragged on, James Corden, who had just performed a two-and-a-half-hour play, grew visibly impatient. According to Hilary, he finally interjected with a pointed question: "Is there any danger we can talk about the play you've just watched that I've been in for two and a half hours?"
Michael Whitehall, 85, chimed in during the podcast, noting dryly that James was not at all pleased with the direction of the conversation. This anecdote highlights the sometimes awkward intersections of celebrity social circles and everyday life.
Jack Whitehall's Recent Wedding and Stag Do
The podcast revelation comes in the wake of Jack Whitehall's wedding to model Roxy Horner, aged 34. The couple tied the knot at the historic 17th-century Euridge Manor in the Cotswolds this past Saturday. The ceremony boasted a star-studded guest list that included James Corden, a longtime colleague of Jack's from the Sky sports-comedy panel show A League Of Their Own.
Prior to the wedding, Jack celebrated his stag do with James Corden and other friends, including Jamie Redknapp and former rugby player Lawrence Dallaglio. The festivities involved a six-hour pub crawl through Soho, starting at 11 a.m. with Guinness, and visits to venues like the mini-golf bar Swingers and a racy club.
Jack later admitted to Radio X host Chris Moyles that his memory of the evening was patchy due to the early start with alcohol, but he insisted the celebration was relatively tame. He humorously credited the Daily Mail for providing a blow-by-blow account of his antics the next day, which helped him piece together the events.
For the outing, Jack was made to wear an inflatable crown, a Tottenham Hotspur shirt, and a cape, adding to the festive and slightly chaotic atmosphere. This blend of personal milestones and celebrity friendships continues to endear the Whitehall family to their audience, both on and off the airwaves.
