The final season of Good Omens has arrived amid controversy, with the third run reduced to a 90-minute special instead of the planned six episodes. The show, which adapts Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman's 1990 novel, has faced a troubled production after Gaiman was accused of sexual assault and other misconduct by several women. Three lawsuits against him were dismissed by US federal judges in February 2026, but his involvement in the series has been limited.
The special focuses on the second coming of Jesus, planned in heaven by Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and the archangels. However, both heaven and hell are portrayed as malfunctioning bureaucracies, and the celestial team soon lose track of the messiah. Jesus, played by Bilal Hasna, is depicted as a naive innocent who befriends a retired card sharp, Harry the Fish (Mark Addy), before becoming a street preacher.
David Tennant and Michael Sheen reprise their roles as the demon Crowley and angel Aziraphale, whose chemistry has been a highlight of the series. In this finale, they reunite after Aziraphale's decision to prioritise work over their relationship, which left Crowley an alcoholic gambling addict. The duo investigate mysterious deaths of archangels and missing sacred artefacts, but the plot is resolved too quickly to carry significance.
The special features a four-way verbal showdown between Crowley, Aziraphale, and two supernatural beings played by heavyweight guest stars. The dialogue is described as smug and grating, with Tennant's quipping and Sheen's fretting feeling stale. The show's musings on religion are basic, offering standard humanist sentiments about mortals not deserving judgment. Despite a dazzling cast, the script is widely criticised as a puzzling mess.
