Sabrina Carpenter brought a fresh twist to her Coachella headline set on Friday by featuring Geena Davis in a monologue role, succeeding Susan Sarandon's appearance the previous weekend. The appearance came amid intense rumours that Madonna would join Carpenter, which proved partially true as the pop icon later performed a medley.
Davis, playing an older version of Carpenter's character 'Aunt Sabrina', delivered a trimmed-down version of the monologue that Sarandon had performed. The script was paraphrased and cut to about half the length, avoiding the awkward pauses that had marked Sarandon's rendition due to technical delays.
The monologue saw Davis sitting in a 1950s car within a makeshift drive-in theatre set. Her performance ended after three and a half minutes, when a carhop played by Corey Fogelmanis arrived to settle her tab, compared to Sarandon's seven-minute version.
Notable cuts included references to a fictional sister named Laurie and an inspirational closing section. The changes were well-received, lending credence to rumours that Sarandon's original speech was stretched unintentionally.
