Britain's former ambassador to the United States, Kim Darroch, has described President Donald Trump and his administration as 'inept' and 'uniquely dysfunctional' in leaked diplomatic memos, according to the Mail on Sunday.
Darroch reportedly wrote that Trump's presidency could 'crash and burn' and 'end in disgrace'. The memos, covering a period from 2017, include comments that the administration is 'less dysfunctional; less unpredictable; less faction riven; less diplomatically clumsy and inept'.
In one dispatch, Darroch allegedly described Trump as 'insecure' and 'incompetent'. Following Trump's state visit to the UK in June, Darroch warned that Britain might not remain 'flavour of the month' due to the 'America First' policy.
Darroch also criticised Trump's foreign policy on Iran as 'incoherent' and 'chaotic', questioning the president's claim that he called off retaliatory missile strikes to avoid killing 150 Iranians.
The Foreign Office did not dispute the memos' authenticity, stating that ambassadors are expected to provide 'honest, unvarnished assessments'. A spokeswoman expressed confidence that relations with the White House would withstand the leak.
