Emmerdale actress Georgia Jay has reportedly decided not to return to the ITV soap after less than two years on the show. The 28-year-old, who plays Steph Miligan, has been absent from screens since last summer while on maternity leave following the birth of her first child.
According to reports, Jay has chosen to leave the role permanently to focus on motherhood. A source told The Sun: 'Georgia loved her time at Emmerdale but she has no plans to return now. She’s loving being a mum and that’s her focus for now. Obviously she’s open to opportunities but returning to a full-on soap schedule full-time is just not something she can do at the moment.'
Fans expressed disappointment on social media, with one writing: 'The wonderful Georgia Jay has quit and will not be returning after her maternity leave :( absolutely devastated but so thankful for everything Steph Miligan & Georgia gave us.' Another added: 'Oh NO?!!! loved her character!'
The departure comes amid reports that Dawn Taylor actress Olivia Bromley has also been written out of the show after eight years. A source claimed that bosses felt they had 'done all they can' with the character. Bromley is said to understand the decision and will film her exit scenes later this year.
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX. The Mirror has contacted Emmerdale for comment on Georgia Jay's exit.
