EastEnders Star Lorraine Stanley Shows Off Dramatic Weight Loss and Sobriety Journey

Former EastEnders actress Lorraine Stanley has revealed a stunning weight loss transformation, attributing her new look to a combination of a gastric sleeve operation and five months of sobriety. The 48-year-old, who played Karen Taylor on the BBC soap from 2017 to 2024, shared a photo on Instagram from an event on June 2, wearing a kaftan she bought in Barcelona airport for less than £30.

Stanley received a wave of positive comments from fans and former co-stars. Diane Parish, who plays Denise Fox, commented: 'You look incredible!' James Bye, who played Martin Fowler, wrote: 'Look at you skinny minny!' Smooth Radio presenter Angie Greaves added: 'You look amazing!' Stanley responded: 'Thank you! I feel like myself again!'

According to reports, Stanley has lost five stone since leaving the soap, aided by a gastric sleeve operation. However, she also credits her decision to quit alcohol. On her Instagram story, she wrote: 'I'm five months sober and still had a good night dancing! #Sobriety.' She emphasised that being sober has not stopped her from enjoying social events.

Drinkaware highlights that cutting out alcohol can reduce blood pressure, improve sleep, and lower the risk of liver disease and other serious conditions. Alcoholic drinks contain empty calories, with a pint of lager or a large glass of wine having as many calories as more than half a cheeseburger. Stopping drinking can help with weight loss and maintaining a healthy weight.
