Timothée Chalamet has released the first official image of his character Paul Atreides in the forthcoming film Dune: Part Three. The picture, shared on Monday, shows Chalamet in a Fremen stillsuit with red scarring and deep wrinkles around his eyes, marking a noticeable departure from his appearance in the first two films.
Shortly after, additional images for other characters were shared on the film’s official social media. Returning cast members include Zendaya as Chani, Javier Bardem as Stilgar, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Anya Taylor-Joy as Alia Atreides, and Isaach De Bankolé as Farok. The images also provide the first look at Robert Pattinson, who joins the franchise as the villain Scytale, a Tleilaxu Face Dancer and master manipulator.
Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s science-fiction saga has been a critical and commercial success, with Dune: Part Two grossing over $631m worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film of 2024. The third film is based on Herbert’s 1969 novel Dune Messiah, and is expected to follow directly from the events of the second film, which ended with Paul overthrowing the Emperor and setting a holy war in motion.
Rebecca Ferguson, who plays Paul’s mother Lady Jessica, has revealed that she appears in only one scene in the new film. Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, she said: “I just dipped my toe in. I have no, sort of, comments on it. The script is great, I’ve read it. I think it’s gonna be fantastic.” She added that director Denis Villeneuve requested her involvement for a single scene, despite her character not originally being planned for the third installment.
Production on Dune: Part Three began in July last year. The film’s trailer is expected to be released next week.
