Disneyland Paris has issued an apology after a video emerged showing a theme park employee interrupting a marriage proposal and snatching the engagement ring from the guest's hand. The incident, which took place at the resort's Sleeping Beauty castle viewing platform, has sparked widespread criticism online.
The 21-second clip, posted on Reddit on Thursday, shows a man kneeling to propose to his girlfriend. A male employee then rushes in, grabs the ring box, and guides the couple off the platform. The groom-to-be can be heard telling the worker, 'She said yes,' but the employee responds, 'Yes, that’s great but over here will be even better,' prompting boos from onlookers.
The German man, identified as Ante, 31, told the New York Times he had planned the proposal for five months. 'Disneyland stands for dreams. Our moment was destroyed,' he said. Disney has apologised and offered the couple a free weekend at a Disney park and hotel, but Ante declined, stating, 'I don’t want to visit Disneyland any more.'
A Disney spokesperson said: 'We regret how this was handled. We have apologised to the couple involved and offered to make it right.' The company has not commented on whether the employee has been disciplined. The Reddit user who posted the video clarified that the man had received prior permission from a female staff member to propose on the platform.
