Disney has settled a legal dispute with actress Gina Carano over her dismissal from The Mandalorian, a Lucasfilm spokesperson confirmed on Thursday.
Carano was removed from the Star Wars series in 2021 after her social media posts, including an Instagram post comparing the treatment of conservatives in the US to the dehumanisation of Jews in Nazi Germany. Lucasfilm at the time called the posts "abhorrent and unacceptable".
Carano, who played Cara Dune, sued Disney for wrongful termination in 2024, with financial backing from Elon Musk. In a statement, Lucasfilm said Carano "was always well respected by her directors, co-stars, and staff" and expressed hope for future collaboration.
In her lawsuit, Carano alleged Disney had required her to meet with an LGBTQ+ rights group and later with LGBTQ+ employees, which she refused. Carano called the settlement "the best outcome for all parties involved" and thanked Musk, describing him as a "Good Samaritan".
The settlement comes as US corporations scale back diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, and as the Federal Communications Commission, under chair Brendan Carr, investigates Disney's DEI practices.
