Deadliest Catch star Todd Meadows has died after falling overboard from a fishing vessel in Alaska, the US Coast Guard has confirmed. The 25-year-old deckhand was the newest crew member on the Aleutian Lady, a boat featured on the Discovery Channel reality series.
A Coast Guard spokesperson said Meadows was found unresponsive ten minutes after he went overboard. 'First aid and attempts to resuscitate were unsuccessful,' a statement read. Officials are investigating the incident to determine the cause and any necessary corrective actions.
The vessel was the last one still at sea for the forthcoming 22nd season of Deadliest Catch. Filming concluded shortly after Meadows's death, according to Deadline. Captain Rick Shelford, who has appeared on the show since 2023, called it the 'most tragic day in the history of the Aleutian Lady'. He added: 'His love for fishing and his strong work ethic earned everyone's respect right away. His smile was contagious.'
A Discovery Channel spokesperson described his death as 'a devastating loss', expressing deep sadness and offering condolences to his loved ones and crew. Deadliest Catch, which premiered in 2005, follows king crab fishermen in the Bering Sea, a profession known for its high risk of injury or death.
