The US embassy in Cyprus issued a warning to US citizens about a possible drone threat in the Paphos region, urging them to stay alert and avoid areas near military installations, government buildings, or other potential targets. The embassy advised staying indoors away from windows or glass doors.
The incident comes just hours after the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) updated its travel advice for Cyprus, following a suspected drone impact at RAF Akrotiri. The FCDO noted a heightened risk of regional tension and warned that escalation could lead to travel disruption. The Ministry of Defence confirmed the suspected drone strike at RAF Akrotiri, stating that no casualties were reported and that force protection was at the highest level.
EasyJet has cancelled all flights to Cyprus on Monday, including three return flights between Paphos, Larnaca, and the UK, as a precaution. The airline advised customers to check its flight tracker for updates and offered options for rebooking, refunds, and accommodation for affected passengers.
The developments follow the recent conflict sparked by attacks against Iran's leadership, with Iran launching retaliatory strikes across the Middle East. Cyprus remains on high alert, with the Paphos airport evacuation and drone threat adding to the security concerns.
