Craig Charles Alleges WhatsApp Group Betrayal Among I'm A Celebrity Campmates
Craig Charles has publicly addressed his decision to withdraw from active participation in the I'm A Celebrity... South Africa campmates' WhatsApp group. The actor and television personality claims that an unidentified member of the group has been systematically selling private stories and conversations to national newspapers, breaching the trust of fellow celebrities.
Revelation on National Television
During a recent appearance on Good Morning Britain, Charles discussed how campmates learned about Scarlett Moffatt's pregnancy announcement. He explained that Moffatt had shared the news in the WhatsApp group several weeks prior, requesting confidentiality from all members. Charles stated, "I've not been that engaged with the WhatsApp group because someone in the group is selling stories from the WhatsApp group to the newspapers."
He elaborated that this discovery prompted him to significantly reduce his involvement in the group discussions, adding, "So I kind of went, ooh, I'm not getting involved that much." Charles expressed genuine happiness for Moffatt, noting she had previously discussed conception difficulties in the group, making her pregnancy particularly joyful news for everyone.
Suspicions and Denials
When pressed by hosts Susanna Reid and Richard Arnold about whether he knew the identity of the alleged leaker, Charles remained cautious. He responded, "No, people have suspicions, but I couldn't possibly comment. It's certainly not me!" This statement highlights the tension and mistrust that has developed within the group following these allegations.
Charles, who originally appeared on I'm A Celebrity in 2014 before leaving due to his brother's tragic death, is currently competing in the South Africa edition for the title of jungle legend. The live final is scheduled for Friday, April 24, with Charles still in contention alongside notable celebrities including Ashley Roberts, Adam Thomas, Sinitta, Beverley Callard, Harry Redknapp, Jimmy Bullard, Scarlett Moffatt, and Sir Mo Farah.
Contrasting Jungle Experiences
The article also notes that eliminated contestants have shared positive reflections on their time in the jungle. Gemma Collins, who was voted off earlier, described her second experience as "nothing but amazing," contrasting it with her first appearance where external circumstances affected her mindset. She said, "This time, I went in there all guns blazing. It was like a weird sort of holiday, but a lovely one."
Other eliminated participants include Seann Walsh and David Haye. I'm A Celebrity continues to air weeknights on ITV at 9pm, maintaining its position as a staple of British entertainment television despite the behind-the-scenes drama revealed by Charles.
