Coronation Street's Jude Riordan: The Soap Star from a Famous TV Family
Corrie's Jude Riordan: Star from Famous TV Family

Coronation Street viewers have expressed mounting concern for Sam Blakeman in recent episodes of the long-running ITV soap opera. Portrayed by young actor Jude Riordan, Sam has been embroiled in a tense and dangerous plot involving teacher Megan Walsh.

Sam Blakeman's Troubling Ordeal on the Cobbles

In the storyline, Sam discovered Megan's inappropriate relationship with teenager Will Driscoll and has been trying to expose her predatory behaviour. However, Megan, played by Beth Nixon, has responded with intimidation and threats, pressuring Sam into silence. This conflict reached a critical point during a recent episode when Sam's distress became visibly apparent to other characters.

A Dramatic Collapse and Hospitalisation

Nina Lucas, portrayed by Mollie Gallagher, noticed Sam wasn't eating and appeared unwell, sharing her concerns with Eva Price, played by Catherine Tyldesley. As Eva attempted to intervene, Sam spotted Megan entering the café and fled outside, where he collapsed on the famous Weatherfield cobbles. The character was rushed to hospital, where doctors revealed he had been secretly taking ADHD medication without medical need, causing his physical collapse.

The tension escalated further when Sam's former stepmother Leanne Battersby discovered Megan visiting him in hospital, visibly unsettling the vulnerable teenager. Upcoming scenes promise to reveal Leanne's investigation into Megan's actions, potentially exposing her inappropriate relationship with Will and her campaign of bullying against Sam.

The Actor Behind Sam Blakeman: Jude Riordan

As Sam's storyline takes centre stage, interest has grown in the actor portraying him. Jude Riordan, now 14 years old, first joined Coronation Street in 2020 as Sam Blakeman, the secret son of Nick Tilsley, played by Ben Price. Beyond his role on the cobbles, Jude previously portrayed Tyler in the comedy-drama series Brassic from 2019 to 2024.

A Family Steeped in Television Tradition

Jude Riordan comes from what might be described as a soap opera dynasty. His father is director Paul Riordan, who has helmed numerous episodes of Coronation Street over the years. Paul's directing credits extend beyond Weatherfield to include other major British television programmes such as Hollyoaks, Emmerdale, Casualty, and Father Brown.

Jude has openly celebrated working with his father, sharing social media posts from the Coronation Street set. In one caption from 2024, he wrote about filming "another block with the Father" and described making "bold choices" together on the cobbles. Another post humorously referred to "Take your Dad to work day" while acknowledging the chilly Manchester filming conditions.

Brotherly Connections on the Cobbles

The family connections don't end with father and son. Jude's brother, Zach Riordan, also appeared on Coronation Street in 2022, playing a character named Oscar who challenged Sam to a chess match at the bistro. This means all three Riordan men have now contributed to the iconic soap opera in different capacities.

Coronation Street continues to air Monday through Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and the streaming service ITVX, bringing viewers the latest developments in Sam Blakeman's storyline and many other Weatherfield narratives.
