Cameron Diaz and Stephen Merchant are set to star in an upcoming romantic comedy from Amazon MGM Studios, with Merchant directing from a script he co-wrote with John Butler. The untitled film follows a workaholic British man employed at a luxury New York hotel who enters a fake marriage with a struggling stand-up comedian for appearances and health insurance, leading to unexpected romance.
Producers include Lee Eisenberg, Merchant, and Point Grey Pictures' Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, and Josh Fagen, with Natalie Sandy serving as executive producer. Point Grey and Amazon MGM have previously collaborated on hit series such as The Boys, Gen V, and Invincible.
Diaz, known for films like The Mask, There's Something About Mary, and Charlie's Angels, returns to the rom-com genre after a hiatus. Merchant, an Emmy- and BAFTA-winning writer and director, co-created The Office with Ricky Gervais and directed Fighting With My Family. Butler wrote and directed Handsome Devil and worked with Merchant on The Outlaws.
