Britney Spears has been arrested in California on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to police records. The 44-year-old singer was taken into custody by the California Highway Patrol in Ventura County at around 9:30pm local time on Wednesday, March 4.
Spears was booked at approximately 3am on Thursday morning for an alleged DUI, which in California can refer to impairment by alcohol or drugs. She has since been released and is scheduled to appear in court on May 4.
The arrest comes shortly after Spears was granted a permanent restraining order against a Louisiana man who allegedly trespassed at her Los Angeles home in 2025. Court documents cited by TMZ claim the 51-year-old man was spotted by Spears' security guard, who called police. Spears stated she did not know the man and had no relationship with him.
The man is also accused of harassing Spears online since 2013, with social media posts described as 'largely incoherent' and some 'could be interpreted as threatening'. He has been ordered to stay 100 yards away from Spears at all times.
Earlier this year, it was reported that Spears sold the rights to her entire music catalogue, including hits like 'Toxic' and 'Womanizer', to independent publisher Primary Wave for around $200 million. She has previously stated she will 'never return to the music industry', though she continues to write songs for fun and for other artists.
