Zhu Mingyue, known online as Mi Duo, a Chinese beauty influencer with 111,000 followers on Douyin, has died at the age of 41 after battling rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive soft tissue sarcoma. Her eldest daughter announced her death on Monday, describing her mother as a 'warrior' and a 'hero' who worked tirelessly to provide for her family and build her cosmetics brand.
Zhu, a former model, began documenting her cancer journey on social media after doctors gave her between one and two years to live. In her final months, she suffered severe complications, including loss of eyesight and slurred speech, yet remained optimistic to comfort her family. Her daughter recounted that days before her death, Zhu held her hand and said, 'Don't cry, baby. This is a tough time, but Mommy will be better in a few days.'
Zhu's daughter shared that her mother's biggest regret was neglecting her health while chasing professional success, often working through exhaustion and skipping meals. In previous videos, Zhu warned followers about three bad habits: greasy foods (especially takeaways), sleep deprivation, and chronic anxiety. She believed staying up until 1am or 2am most nights weakened her immune system.
Zhu's husband's car dealership had faced financial trouble, and she was stressed by the extreme competitiveness in digital entrepreneurship. She leaves behind her husband and three children. Her daughter reiterated Zhu's message that people should 'prioritise their health over work.'
