Michael Barrymore gives health update after hernia surgery in London

Michael Barrymore is recovering at his home in South Devon after undergoing hernia surgery in London on Wednesday. The 78-year-old former BBC and ITV presenter relocated to the Kingsbridge area three weeks ago and has praised the warm welcome from locals.

In a video posted to TikTok on Saturday, Barrymore reassured his 4.3 million followers that he is recovering well. He said he took his dog Lara to Blackpool Sands in Devon, joking it was 'way better' than the Lancashire resort. He treated himself to a sausage bap while Lara was given a free sausage roll.

Barrymore described Devon as 'absolutely gorgeous' with 'blue skies all day long'. He has been busy with renovations on his new home, including an aluminium framed print he loves. However, he admitted he is taking it easy and slept all afternoon, relying on painkillers from the hospital, though he dislikes the drowsiness they cause.

The entertainer confessed he 'couldn't be bothered to cook' and opted for a microwaved Thai green curry ready meal, followed by rhubarb pie and custard. Earlier, after coming round from surgery, he joked: 'Okay the surgery was a success, but what if I'm not funny anymore?'

Local supporters have offered help, including a housekeeper who offered a free clean and dog walk. Barrymore said recovery will take 'a couple of weeks'.
