Amber Davies has denied rumours of a backstage feud with her understudy Hannah Lowther as she battles a chest infection that forced her to step away from her role in Legally Blonde: The Musical. The former Love Island star, 29, had been playing Elle Woods for just four weeks before illness struck.
Davies took to Instagram on Monday to update fans, revealing she has been using an oxygen tank for an hour a day for three days to speed up recovery. She wrote: 'Looks like I'll be needing to extend my time on the antibiotics as it's taking longer to budge than I'd anticipated.'
Hannah Lowther, a TikTok star who normally plays Margot in the production, has taken over the lead role. Reports had suggested tension between the two, with a source claiming Lowther 'gives it ten times more energy than Amber ever has'. But Davies dismissed the claims, stating: 'Just to clear things up, I’m not leaving Legally, I’m not taking a break & there is no feud.'
The production has faced multiple setbacks. Last week, a performance in Milton Keynes was staged as a concert due to cast illness, leaving fans furious. One attendee said: 'This is poor from the company who definitely should've postponed instead of trying to hold on to the money.' Producers cancelled one performance and then offered a scaled-down version, with cast members sitting on chairs and reading from scripts.
