Aljaž Škorjanec Opens Up on Strictly 'Bloodbath' Axings and His Role

Strictly Come Dancing professional Aljaž Škorjanec has broken his silence on the recent wave of dancer departures from the show, describing them as a 'bloodbath' in the media. Speaking at a LEON restaurant event in London, the 36-year-old Slovenian dancer said he is awaiting the official announcement on who will return for the next series. 'Whatever the Strictly bosses do, it’s in the interest of the show, and we always support their decisions,' he said. 'So we’ll see who’s back. And hopefully, I’m back.'

Škorjanec, who returned to the show in 2024 after a two-year break to focus on fatherhood, acknowledged the sadness of seeing long-time colleagues leave but emphasised the importance of fresh energy. 'I’ve seen a lot of people come and go. It’s always sad to see someone go, but it’s equally exciting to see new faces,' he said. He noted that the show's evolution keeps it from becoming stale, and that each celebrity partner brings a unique experience.

The dancer also reflected on his time away from Strictly, which he took to be a hands-on dad and support his wife, Janette Manrara, who is a presenter on the show. 'I left because I knew I wanted to be a hands-on dad and a good husband to a pregnant wife,' he explained. 'I’m actually the only pro ever in the history of the show to be brought back.' He praised Manrara as his 'favourite TV presenter in the UK' and said he is glad she remains part of Strictly.

Škorjanec discussed the upcoming summer tour 'Let’s Face the Music and Dance' with his wife, and expressed a desire to work with LEON founder John Vincent after his dancing career ends. He also commented on the departure of long-time hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, saying their replacements need to bring 'sparkle, glamour, and enjoy the ride.'
