Renowned British actress Alison Steadman has revealed the shocking details of a holiday mishap that left her with a serious foot injury during a camel ride in Dubai.

The 78-year-old Gavin & Stacey star described the terrifying moment when her foot became trapped under the animal, resulting in severe damage that required emergency surgery.

A Holiday Turned Nightmare

"It was absolutely terrifying," Steadman recalled. "One minute I was enjoying this tourist experience, the next I was in excruciating pain with my foot caught beneath the camel."

The accident occurred as Steadman was dismounting the animal during what should have been a routine desert excursion. The force of the camel's movement caused significant trauma to her foot.

Emergency Medical Response

Steadman was rushed to a Dubai hospital where doctors discovered the injury was more severe than initially thought. "The bones in my foot were completely crushed," she explained. "I needed immediate surgery with metal plates inserted to stabilise everything."

The actress praised the medical team who treated her, but admitted the recovery process has been challenging: "I couldn't walk properly for months afterwards. It's been a long road to recovery."

A Warning to Tourists

Now fully recovered, Steadman is speaking out to raise awareness about potential dangers of such tourist activities. "These animals are enormous and incredibly strong," she cautioned. "People don't always realise the risks involved."

The beloved actress, known for her roles in Pride and Prejudice and The Singing Detective, has since returned to work but says the experience has made her more cautious about adventurous activities during holidays.
