A US Air Force KC-135 Stratotanker made an emergency landing at RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk after declaring an in-flight emergency in British airspace. The aircraft, which was conducting air-to-air refuelling operations, experienced a mechanical issue while supporting local area flying.
The US Air Force confirmed that the aircraft, carrying a crew of three, returned to base without incident. Captain Lauren Ott, chief of public affairs for the 100th Air Refuelling Wing at RAF Mildenhall, stated that the crew declared an in-flight emergency as a standard precautionary measure.
Captain Ott emphasised that declaring an in-flight emergency is routine procedure to ensure the safety and security of both the aircrew and the aircraft. The incident did not result in any injuries or damage.
