A United Airlines flight bound for Chicago was forced to turn around after declaring a mid-air emergency over the UK due to a technical issue.
The flight, United 2811, had departed from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport but turned back approximately one hour into the journey. According to Flight Aware, the aircraft was above Blackpool when the emergency was reported.
Despite the incident, the plane was not forced to land immediately and returned safely to Amsterdam. A spokesperson for Schiphol Airport described the situation as a standard precautionary procedure, stating: 'The plane came back to Schiphol out of precaution, due to a technical cause.'
Flightstats reported at the time of the alert that the flight was redirected back to its origin airport. No further details on the nature of the technical issue have been released.
