US commentator Tucker Carlson has warned that Donald Trump could be within days of launching a nuclear strike on Iran, as fears of a devastating escalation in the Middle East grow.
In a lengthy post on X, the former Fox News host claimed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was putting pressure on the US President to authorise an attack on Pickaxe Mountain, a suspected Iranian nuclear site in central Iran.
Carlson's claims on nuclear strike
Carlson alleged the underground facility, believed by Israeli intelligence to be linked to renewed uranium enrichment, is protected by around 300 feet of solid granite, making conventional weapons ineffective.
Carlson said: "Under pressure from Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Trump administration may be within days of launching a nuclear strike on Iran.
"The target would be Pickax Mountain in central Iran, where Israeli intelligence claims the Iranian government has restarted its nuclear enrichment program."
He also claimed a nuclear weapon could be the only military option capable of destroying the tunnels, adding: "Bibi calls Trump about it every day."
Heightened tensions and political pressure
His warning comes amid continuing tensions over the Iran conflict, with Trump telling reporters at his Mar-a-Lago estate on Saturday that one or two Iranian nuclear facilities remained potential targets. He specifically mentioned Pickaxe Mountain, saying the US could act quickly and that he had military plans for the area.
However, Trump has previously ruled out using nuclear weapons against Iran, while no decision to authorise such an attack has been announced.
Carlson claimed Netanyahu was pushing for renewed military operations, while Vice President JD Vance and US envoy Steve Witkoff were urging Trump to pursue a diplomatic agreement with Tehran.
Potential consequences of a nuclear strike
He warned that a nuclear strike could have catastrophic consequences, potentially contaminating the Persian Gulf and threatening water supplies for millions of people.
The commentator further claimed an American nuclear attack could encourage other countries, including Russia, North Korea, India and Pakistan, to consider using nuclear weapons.
"After the first nuclear strike, World War Three is inevitable. That war would be short and final," he wrote.
Meanwhile, Iran has denied conducting nuclear activity at the Pickaxe Mountain complex, while its leadership has warned Washington and Tel Aviv against further attacks.
